Waterford United v Shelbourne
Shelbourne travel to Waterford on Friday to take on Waterford United in the RSC, with a 7.45 kick-off.
With two games to go, it is still possible for any of the top four teams to win the division and be promoted to the Premier for the 2009 season.
Shelbourne are leading the pack, with 66 pts (+29gd), Dundalk 65 pts (+27gd), Waterford 63 pts (+23gd) and Sporting Fingal 61pts (+22gd). Shelbourne have it in their own hands now to win or lose the title, but with Friday’s game against Gareth Cronin’s charges and the following week against Limerick 37, it’s not going to be easy.
Midfielder Mark O'Brien is suspended for the Waterford game, having reached eight penalty points.
As for the last few weeks, the trio of Darren Forsyth (ankle), Gary McCabe (ankle) and Philly Gorman (groin) remain on the injured list, but are now joined by Alan Byrne and Anto ‘Bisto’ Flood – both rated as very doubtful with shoulder and thigh injuries respectively.
To make matters worse, the Shelbourne camp has been hit with a bout of ‘flu, which has disrupted training. Skipper Damien Brennan, fellow centre-back Alan Keely, the rejuvenated Mark Rutherford and even Manager Dermot Keely have succumbed to bug. It is hoped that they will have recovered sufficiently to take their place in the travelling squad for the trip to Suirside.
