Wexford v Shelbourne

SSE Airtricity League – First Division

Ferrycarrig Park– May 19th – KO 8.00pm

Shelbourne travel down the east coast on Friday to Ferrycarrig to take on locals Wexford FC in the SSE Airtricity League, First Division. Kick off at the Wexford venue in 8pm

Last weekend saw Shelbourne break a run of four league defeats – three of them by the only goal of the game – when they defeated Athlone Town by two goals to one. Second half scores for Derek Prendergast (58’) and Aaron Ashe (66’) were enough to see them pick up the three points - (Athlone’s goal on 78’ was scored by Jason Lyons) - and lifted them to fourth place in the league table.

Wexford suffered another defeat last weekend, this time at home, at the hands of Waterford FC. A goal in the 51st minute from Derek Daly earned the points for the visitors. Wexford are currently eleven points behind Shelbourne in the table.

The first league game played between these sides this season, played in Tolka Park, saw Shelbourne come out on top 2-0 with goals from Derek Prendergast and Dayle Rooney. Wexford had already exited the Leinster Senior Cup in mid-February, Shelbourne having won the first round game 4-2 at Tolka, the Reds having been 4-0 up after 50 minutes. The Shelbourne goals in that game were scored by James English (3) and Dayle Rooney.

The sides did not meet last season, Wexford having played in the Premier Division.

The Shelbourne manager will once again be without a number of players for the Wexford game – James English is suspended (serving the second of two additional games suspension he received following his red card against Cobh) and Alan Byrne misses out having collected five yellow cards. Aidan Collins, Dylan Kavanagh and Chris Lyons remain on the injured list, while Adam O’Connor returns after missing out for two weeks through illness.

Injured:  Dylan Kavanagh, Chris Lyons, Aidan Collins
