Paddy Kavanagh Returns to Action for Shelbourne tonight

Friday, August 3, 2018

Paddy Kavanagh's clearance having gone through, he will play tonight, having left Bohemians and signed for the Real Reds earlier this week.

Paddy started his career at Wayside Celtic, joining UCD from them in July 2006, making ten appearances and scoring four league goals for the ‘Students’ that season.

January 2007 saw him go ‘across the water’ and join Bermingham City on a short-term contract, returning home to join Bray Wanderers, where he made 49 appearances over the next two years.

He joined Shamrock Rovers in July 2009 when Michael O’Neill came calling, where he was in the winning team that won the league title in 2010, having made 22 league appearances. 2011 saw Paddy slip down the pecking order at the Hoops and he made just seven appearances (six from the bench), before the end of another league winning season for the Hoops.

In January 2012, Paddy signed for Alan Mathews and the newly promoted Real Reds at Tolka Park. He made his debut for Shels on the opening night and went on to score six times in 28 league appearances that season.

Paddy’s next stop was at the Brandywell, making sixteen league appearances for the Candystripes as they finished fourth in the 2013 season. His only goal for Derry City was in European competition as his side was defeated 4-2 by Turkish club Trabzonspor.

Returning to Dublin in 2014, Paddy signed for Bohemians (then managed by Owen Heary), where he spent four-and-a-half seasons – stats from those years read - 2014: 29 league appearances, two goals. 2015: 28 league appearances, three goals. 2016: 30 league appearances, one goal. 2017: 28 league appearances, one goal.

During the 2018 season, up to the time he left ‘the Gypsies’, Paddy had made 16 league appearances, scoring once.
