SSE Airtricity League - First Division

Shelbourne FC v Cabinteely FC

Tolka Park

July 12, 19:45

Shels boss Ian Morris says it was hugely important that his team maintained their form after the summer break with two away wins in Limerick and Galway.

The Reds, five points clear at the top of the SSE Airtricity League First Division, return home to Tolka Park on Friday as they welcome promotion chasers Cabinteely.

“It was great to get two away wins on the bounce after the break. It’s a crucial period where you can go away and not maintain that momentum and luckily for us we have,” he told shelbournefc.ie.

They were two tough places to go and we got maximum points so we’ll be looking again to extend that Friday night,” he added.

Shane Farrell and James English both got off the mark last week in Galway which Morris said was “really pleasing.”

“It was really good to see Shane get on the scoresheet, and James as well, who has had a lot of chances to score this year.

“Finally he’s got the duck off his back and hopefully that kicks him on and he starts to pick up goals week in week out,” he added.

With the top four in action against eachother in the league this weekend, Morris believes the weekend represents an opportunity for his Shels side and everyone involved.

“It’s an interesting one where the top four are all playing each other so everybody will be smelling blood and looking to take points home.

Shels have had a disappointing time against the southsiders this year, losing by the odd goal in two previous occasions.

“It won’t affect our preparations, but with mentality and pride you don’t want anyone to take maximum points off you so, it will be in the back of the mind but it won’t affect how we prepare,” he said.

Shelbourne have no injury concerns going into Friday’s game. Ryan Brennan will miss tomorrow's game through suspension after accumulating yellow card threshold.
